I've done exactly what you are facing for a number of years. My 2001 has the run/tow switch, but I go beyond that point. Obviously I set water levels and fully charge first. I place the run/tow in tow mode, disconnect the pack negative and positive cables as well as disconnecting the interconnecting cables on one end to isolate each individual battery, on the chance that a single battery would somehow fail and draw the entire pack down.

Using a maintainer would be ideal if I had electric available in my storage shed while I'm gone, but since I don't this has worked well for me.
