Default Re: Electric EZGO upgrade

EZGO, Club Car and Yamaha all make good carts. There are less upgrades available for a Yamaha and upgrades for Club Car seem to be less available and more costly than EZGO.
Here's my view regarding an EZGO purchase:

Resistor carts are OK but they are a power hog and runtime is not as good as the series or sepex carts. They are also older and hard to mod without expensive upgrades. These were built up to about 1993 which would make any resistor cart you buy at least 16 years old.

If modding is your thing and you want to have the flexibility to do nearly anything as Mike suggested the TXT (series) cart is the way to go. These were built from the mid 90's to about 2005.

The weakest link is the DCS cart. It was EZGO's first attempt at a sepex motor and they had some issues with controller failure and only lasted for a few years in production from about 1995 to about 1999.

Biggest bang for your buck for a neighborhood cruiser with mild lift/mods is a PDS (sepex) cart. You can lift it and run 22 mph without changing anything except the tire size. When that is done you will lose torque so your choices will be neighborhood cruiser or hunting buggy but not both. Adding higher amperage controllers to these make them perform even better. These were built from about 2001 to present.
