Voltage reducer is to change voltage from batteries down to 12 volts to run lights etc. if you have 4/12 volt batteries you could run lights etc from just one of your batteries but that would put uneven wear on batteries. A voltage reducer can use voltage from all batteries and reduce it to 12 volts putting even wear on batteries. It has nothing really to do with how long you can run the cart. It does allow you to set around and use radio, lights etc much longer. Any use of batteries takes away from the time you can run cart.
