You guys are awesome! thanks for the advice! I will try a thread chaser first, if that doesn't work, I will try the 1/2" plug and research what size to drill before tapping.
I'll also buy a couple of quarts of cheap motor oil to pour through it to make sure I capture any shavings that don't get stuck in the grease on the drill bit or tap.
I appreciate all the advice!
