I'd just hook my dmm leads to the battery. Should be around 12 volts not running. Start the engine, and you should see the voltage rise in the neighborhood of 14 volts or more as engine speed increases. Easiest way is up on jackstands! If voltage doesn't increase, it would seem the starter/generator isn't putting out.
