swapping steering columns

4 Attachment(s)
I have the parts to do this has anyone else ever swapped out the columns? Just wondering if there was anything I needed to know about it before I start.

Take the old stuff out then cut the plate where the column is mounted now for the new one to pass through and new bolt holes. Weld a flat plate in the bottom under the springs for the R&P and use the same hook up on the axle as now.
Shouldn't be that hard. The hard part will be getting the hole cut for the column to pass through.
:help:

Is that an old marathon steering you are swapping? I have an early 90s ezgo pcx that I wanted to convert the steering to something newer but I haven't found anyone that has successfully done it. Just looking for some insight.

Yes I want to take the old Marathon steering out and install a newer rack & pinion in it. It drives OK now and is tight but I just think the R&P will be much better at higher speeds. Which is what I'm going for.

Yerf Dog uses a nice little rack and pinion system on there UTVs that could be made to fit relatively easy.

Not yet. I'm having to much fun with it here at the beach to tear it a part. I do have to get the cables done though.
