Stock controller? Stock motor?

Shoot it with a Temp Gun. 165 degrees or less is fine.

That cable burned of due to a heat and the connection (loose, bad connector, etc.) not due to motor heat.

I agree with Nole, however I’d say up to 190 won’t melt it......I ran a stock 36 motor on 48 volts and with a 500 amp controller for months.....yes it got hot, but never failed.....it’s definitely not a long term deal though....... Get a Torque Motor and quit worrying

The claim that is above 170/180 for sustained periods can break down the insulating material in the armature. I play safe and try to stay below 165. Can't say I have ever gotten there except under a very heavy load.

The cart has a 400amp stock controller and the motor is appears to be a stock speed motor

Ok so the motor is not heating up as told. Took it for a 3 mile ride and after going the three started back to the house and the cart felt like something was breaking down. Was doing 22mph and the cart felt like it would slow then go again. Could the mcor or the solenoid be breaking down?

You could try replacing the cable that goes to that lug (or swap it out with another cable of similar length and see if the heat follows the cable.

See this article from trojanbattery.com, read under the "Improper Connector Assembly". Even if your cable terminals look good, some internal corrosion or other flaws can lead to high resistance. https://www.trojanbattery.com/pdf/WP...Guide_0512.pdf
