4-12's or 6-8's which way is best

so I've been reading -
I've got 4 (black recycled trojan) 12 volt batteries in my 48 volt cart, and I've read where some people like the older 6 8 volt set up better.

which set up is better - seems I've only read that you'll get longer runtime from the 8 6volt set up - any other advantages of one setup over the other in my cc iq ds 48 volt cart?

is there a comparison thread that I missed?

thanks

In my opinion the jury is still out on this one!

It is hard to argue that it takes lead to store amps and the more lead you have the more amps you can store that are therefore available...... but some people are still publicly undecided about the physic of this arguement. 8)

Scottyb,
How much lead difference is there b/t 12v and 8v batts.? I would think 12s had more...but I really don't know?:roll:

OK - 1st point. If you are worried about run time, don't buy or use recycled batteries! NEW / FRESH batteries are always the best choice.

2nd point. If your cart was designed with 4 - 12's or 6 - 8's then stay with the stock setup. Factory engineers have their reasons for the design...

Hi Bill,
This is my opinion after 50 years of tinkering. Everyone wants maximum power potential and extended battery duration. To accomplish this you need the maximum battery amps contained within the sum of the batterys and voltage they provide. For example: a 36 volt cart would need 6 each 6 volt batteries at the maximum amp hours possible (lets use 100amps each) providing 600amp hours. If you purchased 3 each 12 volt, wired in series for 36 volts at 100 amps per battery. You only have 300amp hours of run time. The next part of the decision is price. High amp 6 volt batteries are more expensive than 12 volt. You are paying for the extended amp hours to get more power.
Hope this helps,
Wayne

I quickly Trojan batteries for GCs. Here is what I found;
6v = 66 pounds x 8 = 48v and 520 #s of lead storage
8v = 63 pounds x 6 = 48v and 378 #s "
12v = 60 pounds x 4 = 48v and 240 #s "
