EZGO Gas Primary Clutch assembly

In the process of rebuilding my robin 350 engine from my ezgo workhorse 2002. I took the primary clutch apart to inspect once removed from crankshaft, but forgot to mark the covers. I need to know how much (degrees or bolt holes) to rotate during assembly to give me the correct clutch spring force.

Re: EZGO Gas Primary Clutch assembly

If you are talking about the drive/primary clutch, there is no preload as far as i know. It is the secondary/driven clutch that is preloaded. The norm for the workhorse or st series i am sure, uses the 28 degree clutch, middle spring hole and preloaded over one ramp of the clutch.

I am talking about the cvt clutch that attaches to the crankshaft. When I dismantled, I rotated some. The spring has alignment pins that go into the 2 aluminum parts. Therefore, from what I remember there was slight preload. I have attached pictures of the the spring and cvt I have.

I have looked through all my old books and can find nothing about preloading the drive clutch. But having said that, all the clutches i have rebuilt had plain springs and not with the locating tabs you have there, so i may well be wrong. I will see if i can find a 2002 specific tech manual and come back to you.

Re: EZGO Gas Primary Clutch assembly

Ok, looks like we need someone else to chip in here. all my parts listings show tabless springs in the clutches. as also are the upgrade spings, so i really dont think there is a need for any preload. The spring only holds the sheave away from the belt until the revs rise enough to counteract the spring. Unlike the driven clutch which does both holding the clutch sheaves together and keeping the ramps in contact with each other. So my conclusion would be no preload required, just line up the tabs in the holes and rebuild.?

Bear in mind it is about ten years since i worked on these.

Last time I had one apart with spring in slots only turn it back about half inch until bolt holes lined up

^ What Unicorn Said ^

The only "preload" is really just the amount needed to line up the bolts
