Early 80s DS new electronics 48v conversion

I recently acquired an early 80s 36v clubcar. For starters it needs all new batteries. My plans are to ditch all the electronics and upgrade new with 48v.
I need some suggestions on exactly what to get as far as controllers, chargers, etc. I plan on installing a 6 inch lift with 23” tires. I like being able to creep around in the woods as well as speed. It would also be nice to install something that I had room for upgraded motor as well.

Go to cartsunlimited.net and get a conversion kit. Scotty is great and you won’t go wrong if you tell him your needs.

If you’re gonna want a lot of torque I’d go with the SR48400 or 500.

Yessir .. nothing is cheap anymore. I just want to make sure I put the $$ in the right stuff lol. I got the buggy for free so I don’t mind so much considering what these things cost

Figure out what year you have as an early 80s should not have any electronics from the factory. Rack and pinion steering or Ross box? Also figure out what model diff you have, the early ones don't take motor upgrades. On the plus side, you should have a fiberglass body:thumbup:, rather than the newer plastic one.

It is the fiberglass body. I’ll run out in a few to try to find out the year.

The year it was made is the first 2 digits in the serial #.

It’s a 84 model. It also has a steering rack. It has a rear seat installed and lights, horn, turn signals. The batteries just kept getting weaker and weaker until they quit. I figured I’d upgrade if I could when I replaced the batteries.

You got the new steering. Good! Now check your rear end.:lhmo: If memory serves '84 is about the time they switched to kawasaki diffs. Your cart could have either.

How do you tell what differential it is?
