Multi-step Potentiometer for 95 CC
Getting ready for upgrades to my 95 CC Series cart and while testing the Multi-step Potentiometer to determine whether my cart was 0-5k or 5k-0, I noticed 0 ohms with no throttle depressed and increasing ohms as I depressed the pedal, indicating 0-5k system. However, as pedal travel neared full down, I noted only about 1900 ohms (1.9 k) and then at full down, the meter went to infinity!
Cart has been running normally, but should I see this as a potential (no pun intended here) problem? Is my potentiometer going bad? |
Re: Multi-step Potentiometer for 95 CC
Check the individual resistors in multi-step. Sounds like you have a bad one or loose one.

Re: Multi-step Potentiometer for 95 CC
Thank you, Tag50, for your reply. I had a chance to open the potentiometer tonight. Surprisingly, all looks good inside. The resistors were all tight (no loose connections) and did not have any visual descrepancies (were not burned or discolored in any way). The contacts all looked clean and shiny (indicating the wiper is making good contact on them all). For a nearly 20 year old cart, I was very surprised. I put it all back together since the cart is still running okay.

I would convert it to mcor

Re: Multi-step Potentiometer for 95 CC
What's the serial number for your cart? They used two different styles in 1995. 0-5K was used for the first 16 weeks and 5K-0 was used after that. The 0-5K cars had a black controller and the 5K-0 cars had a silver one. You can not convert to an MCOR unless you have the 5K-0 configuration.

The serial number of this cart is A9503 420644 with the black controller.

Re: Multi-step Potentiometer for 95 CC
Sounds like you need a new pot. But they don't make those any more... You will have to get inventive. Convert to a multi-step potentiometer or maybe you can get just the pot and repair your unit? Can you post pics of the throttle unit and it's mount?
