HELP! Spun lugs

I bought a 2004 DS I'm going to fix up. When I went to remove the wheels, I had a loose stud I can't get the nut off. Anyone have a clever way to remove the nut?

I had one a while back, I used a cut off wheel to cut the end off the lug nut. Then I put a socket on the nut and drilled the stud out. Not as bad as it sounds.

Re: HELP! Spun lugs

The stud didn’t spin until the nut was flush with the end. I guess that saves me one step at least. Was hoping to find a solution simpler than drilling, but it may be my only option.

On a related note, fingers crossed that the hole isn’t enlarged to the point of not securely holding a new stud!

If it does, its easily replaceable.

I replaced mine with a stud from a cub cadet mower. It had better splines.

Re: HELP! Spun lugs

Use a Dremel tool with a cutoff wheel to patiently cut the stud behind the nut.

If there is not enough room behind the nut, cut the nut on each side of the stud and take off the two halves.

As mentioned, studs are easy to replace.

You can take a cutting wheel, and cut the back side of the hub where the stud is pancaked into the hub. If the stud is indeed turning, cutting the back side off will allow you to pull the entire stud out.

Thanks everyone. There's not much room in the wheel to accommodate a nut splitter. I tried drilling the stud but ruined about 4 bits. I'm not saving the wheels, so time to break out a cut off wheel.
