Curtis 1204-402 Controller Conversion Problems

Hey guys, my 36V v-glide resistor cart kept melting v-glides (yes, I have kids), so I decided to make the jump to a controller. I bought a Curtis 1204-402 off ebay along with a new solenoid and 0-5k pot. Started the install and noticed the A1 terminal on the motor was stripped out, the A2 was in bad shape as well. I took the motor apart and replaced both the A1 & A2 studs. Put everything back together with new cables and the cart would barely move on level ground and wouldnt even begin to climb a hill. I thought it was the controller, so I sent it out to ARS and they rebuilt it. I reinstalled it, but still the same problem. If I measure the voltage across the B+ and M terminals, it only shows 3.5 V with the throttle fully applied. If I jack the rear wheels off the ground and repeat the test, the motor will spin up and the voltage measures 30 V or higher. Any ideas?

Sounds like the motor was the culprit melting the v glide drawing too many amps. Now you replaced acouple studs could have damaged the motor.if the b+ had good voltage on a load the M has low voltage and the controller was rebuilt makes me think the motor is drawing too amps.i would try to get a amp draw off the m wire eith a clamp on amp meter see whats it drawing.i have a used motor and rear end for the cart sell it cheap

Thanks for the reply Roxyflash, I'll try and get an amp reading and post the results. I may be interested in your motor, how much are you asking for it?

It could also be your batteries. Put your meter on the battery pack and see how much the voltage drops when you apply the throttle. With wheels on the ground.
