Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
This is a series cart A0042 948892. Bought it in Atlanta..had 6-6 volt batteries in it D.O.A. Due to distractions, I forgot to get the charger...I will have it shipped to me. I installed 6 new 6 volt batteries. Cart runs but very sluggish on any incline. Texted seller and he says club car charger says 48 volt output on side.....Point is he doesn't know if that's the correct charger for that cart. It has the amber light on the dash....and yup it gives one 10 sec flash and one 30 sec flash.
What say you oh knowledgeable one ??? |
Re: Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
Your model "A0042" seems to indicate it's a 2000 model year manufactured in the 42nd week. In 2000 you could have a 36v V-glide system or a 48v Powerdrive system.
The most direct way to know is wipe off the motor id plate and read it to see if it's a 36v motor or 48v. Simple and fail proof. You could also take a picture of under the seat and someone here will recognize what system you have. |
Re: Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
The amber light indicates a 48v cart. It can also be identified as 48v with by the round charge receptacle.

Re: Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
Sorry...could've went a little farther...it is a "V " glide. Charger recepticle is round. Has rear seat that requires removal to read label on motor...I have a badly damaged arthritic shoulder...hence the reluctance to remove heavy bulky parts.
I appreciate your input.. |
Re: Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
You have a 48v cart that someone put 36v worth of batteries in. I'd advise getting the correct 6 8v batteries

All of the carts with the round receptacle are 48v. |
Re: Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
Many thanks to all who responded...I took the baseplate off the rear seat, removed the motor cover, and there's 48 volt stickers all over the place !
Now to see if my battery supplier will exchange the 6's for 8 volt.. whoever previously owned this cart drove it for quite some time with the six volt batteries installed. Must've been flat country.. Happy Thanksgiving everyone...I have much to be thankful for including this forum. |

How many fill holes on the batteries?
When I first got my cart all the carts the golf course was using were 36 volt. They had 6, 6 volt batteries. I looked at my batteries without really seeing them and assumed I had a 36 volt cart. Then when it came time to clean and service them after about a month of use I was supprized I had 8 volt batteries. Son of a gun the charger was 48 volt too. Sometimes we look but don't see.:oops: |
Re: Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
Unfortunately for these batteries - the 48v charger's cut off voltage is 58-63v instead of the recommended 45 (ish)v for 6/6v.
Consequently they have been getting overcharged or 'cooked' as we say in the trades. |
Re: Club Car 36 or 48 volt ??
He said the charger is being shipped to him, so hopefully he didn't put any voltage to them. Good luck on swapping the batteries. You should notice a big difference when you change them.
