New floor mat

Can anyone tell me how to remove the pedals to put a new floor mat one I can't see anywhere how to get them off and I don't want to cut the new mat

You'd really be better off just cutting the mat...

Here's a manual for a 1995-early 96 DS, (it's the earliest manual I have, and it may, or may not be the same as your 88!)
Page 5-8 tells you how to remove the mat, section 6 (mid section) tells how to disassemble the pedal group.

I just read through it... and I'm going to have to agree with Dave! (it looks like a PIA!)
and not knowing how corroded your mounting hardware and misc. parts are... you'll probably run into problems!

I would cut it then used a carpet tape to keep it together

Don't cut the new one yet. There is a procedure for putting the new one on with out cutting it. Let me see if I can find it

You don't have to take the pedals out and you don't have to cut anything. Turn the mat upside down on the floor. Spray the heck out of WD-40 all over the back of the mat. Slowly work it over the brake pedal and slide it all the way down. After it's on the brake, twist the entire mat about 45 degrees counter clockwise and wrap it around the accel pedal. Use a large screwdriver to help wrap it. A small one will tear the mat. Once you've wrapped it around the accel pedal, slowly slide it down until it's underneath it. Rotate mat 45 degrees clockwise and sit it down. You're done. I guess I need to video this and post it. It may be a while before I can get a chance though. DS cars are a rarity these days.
