Back of truck hauling cart. Should I remove the roof of cart??
 

Ok, one more melex question, want to take a melex 512 cart up to
Lytle creek tomorrow, can be windy not sure tomorrow's
Forecast wind wise. But my concern is aprox 50 miles of freeway
Speed 65ish. The roof was replaced by previous owner.
It does not look brand new (not complaining) but my
Concern is the freeway speed and not sure how the roof
Is secured yet. Feels secure but want to know what you do?
Remove the roof? Leave it be? Add a strap to reenforce it
In place??

Just don't want to see behind me flipping plastic and possibly
Cause a wreck behind me, I tend to over secure my loads but
Better safe than sorry.

have hauled my cart at freeway speeds with the top on for many miles. no problems. I would take your windshield out through, I have lost a few of them. :mrgreen:

Well trip went well, although loading up the cart with the rear end in first
Did seem to cause some hellish wind drag as the higher part of the roof was
Facing the front of the truck. So next time may try removal.
Roof did fine but the wind drag sucked.

actually, your wind drag came from the cart itself, ain't much of a footprint to a skinny top. :mrgreen:

Yea true and the dash facing wind too,
Whole thing was like a damned wind sail Haha! Truck ran about 15 degrees hotter and lagged me down.
Would like to find some way to reduce the drag but yea i don't see any way to reduce it enough to smooth the run. La side of cajon pass always
Will lag it some with grade alone. 210 has hellish side wind from about
Mid way point of pasadena.

Need to work on metal under batteries and steering.
Also front end. Some more work, this is a friends cart
Which i am having fun working on. I think they will need
To buy a trailer.

next time try loading it front. the front cowl will cut the wind better. but as you said the whole thing is one big sail. :mrgreen:

I would have loaded it the other way I wanted the weight
More over the back tires. Also keep the heavier load off the
Tailgate.. It's a pay to play I guess. Work the truck A little harder
And have fun with the cart. Once I get a few life things in order
More time will be dedicated to the cart.

I've got a short bed Silverado and my rear wheels hang on the back of the tailgate.
I place two 2X10X8' boards in the bed under the wheels to take the load off of the tailgate and have had no issues.
just a thought.

I made a bed addition for my silverado 1500 quad cab shortbed truck to haul my yamaha g16 with lift and rear seats. I took a piece of 1/2" plywood cut it to fit to the end of the bumper. I added a 4x4 to fill the gap of the bumper. Then i addd a foam pad for the bumper under the 4x4. I used a very large furniture slider flipped upside-down, that way I could screw it to the 4x4. I keep my roof on, and I role down the highway. I did bolt my roof to the frame instead of the stock wimpy screws.
