Low budget swap options?
 

I pick up a txt electric ezgo stock. It's missing batteries, charger wire harness, I believe the controller is fried. But not sure.
I'm not a huge fan of electric powered golf carts so I'm going to start with from scratch.

What is the most sucessful/ low budget swap?

My plans are have a more ground clearance. Plenty of up hill torque, decent speed 20+ mph. I would like reverse but not necessary. Try to keep the Budget under a $1000

So what are your opinions?

You need a rear axle , a clutch for it, an engine, an engine cradle, a clutch for that.

You will need an exhaust system of some sort, but you *could* make that out of plumbing parts.. temporarily..I guess.

The other stuff (except the cradle) can't be home made..

I am not sure you can do it for a 1000. you would have to collect the parts from bargain sources over time, or get lucky quickly..

I think I covered it.. there will be several ancillary devices like throttle and ignition hookups and choke mechanism if you need it, fuel pump, gas tank,
battery, all that.. but just the initial stuff is what you need.

Your best bet is to find a TXT witha blown motor and rob all the stuff you need off that, I guess ?

I got my first cart going under a grand, a 98 workhorse.

The engine was blown in two boxes, the cart had a flat tire and beat up bad besides that, as most used factory type workhorses are.

I rebuilt the motor, the cart costs 350. the parts and time costs me about 350 -400 or so..I got some tires, and it needed a few little odds and ends to actually go.. that had to be new.

Then I got my second cart for 140 dollars. It was completely immersed in phophate slurry at one point, so I had to scrap the frame to get it off..then took all the good parts from two and made one, (over time, I had replaced all bushings and bearing s on my older one) then the old one sat in the back yard for a while.

I located a vtwin for 200 bucks that burned propane. I bought a gas carb and manifold from Florida member no longer *with us*, and I bought an engine cradle and header, and a longer belt..and a few other things.
I had to tear the vtwin down and have the shaft machined to accept a
stock clutch.
I bought a lift kit and big tires over time.

Then I took my best Robin Vtwin stuck it in the old cart, got new bushings and stuff and rebuilt it, and bought a new secondary clutch because the old one was full of phosphate, and got it running just like a stock workhorse..
Actually I thought about making my old cart stock again it drove so nice, then I gave it to my neighbor buddy, and he gave me a 1960 Danelctro / Silvertone guitar I had admired for a while.

Well I found a atc 200 for 150 and my buddy is trying to get his brother gsxr 600 motor ecm for 400 for me.

There is a guy on here put a 6.5hp in an electric cart, put a tav2 on it and it runs pretty good. Not going to be fast but hey. If you go with a clone 390/420cc ($300) that is the cheapest way, but you need the clutches/rear from a gas cart to use on it. That will have more power than a stock cart (~9hp) however. You can look for a used engine, you can buy the wheels/tires used cheaper and make your own lift. You might score say an older polaris 400 2wd quad and drop that whole engine/rear into a cart though they are 2 strokes. Few of the older quads had a 4 stroke and a CVT.

I looked at the cart I can lift it cheap. I might even get a four wheeler front suspension and brakes.

New guy just searching for information here. Does anyone make a universal engine cradle for the EZ-GO? I'd like to mount a 15 hp Honda engine to replace my 11 hp Robins.

Cpp a site sponsor sells an engine cradle for the v-twin, but it should also work for you. Give Tom a call and ask, can't hurt.
