Converting a 78 club car from 36 to 48 volts

I talked to plum quick and was told I can convert my 78 Caroche to 48 volts just by replacing the batteries to 48 volts, and of coarse the charger. He said since this is the 5 solenoid model I can do that and it will work fine. He did say the solenoids will eventually go out and have to be replaced but there is no use replacing then till they do. I will also send them the motor and have them do the. Bandit upgrade to it. I just wanted to put this out there to the experts and get their opinion before I do it. He said this system will do fine with it and that this motor is a lot better then the new motors.

As for putting 48v into a 36v system knowing it is going to fail sometime .... the guy who recommends this isn't going to be the same guy pushing the cart home when it quits. :-P

I agree. If I replace the solenoids with 48 volt, is this a good conversion. Although I can't knock his theory.. I've had 3 fail over the years, 35 year old cart you know, and all you lose is one of the 4 speeds. Not movement. It has never stranded me.

Not in my experience. There are resistor coils on those solenoids are there not?
The only way I know of is to convert to modern electronics = solid state speed control.

Yes, there are resister coil's. he said they will be fine. Seems to know his stuff but I don't know myself.

I would just go ahead and do it right once. Solid state 48v system
