My FE350D has valve adjusters, what gives??
Big thank you to buggies gone wild for so much great information. This will be my first post.
I normally just read and work on my cart but found it to be very strange that my 2014 Club Car Precedent FE350D (motor s/n:FE350D309970) in fact has a valve adjustment screw on the rockers. My question is am I to assume the adjustment is supposed to be zero lash because there is some form of hydraulic lifters or does my cart have some shenanigans going on? I noticed an tick that got louder as the cart heated up so I pulled the cover and set them to .004mm hot and it is quiet as it should be now.... |
Re: My FE350D has valve adjusters, what gives??
I had read somewhere that the newer FE350's no longer had HLA's and you had to manually set valve lash. I haven't seen one personally, but I do have a 2013 FE350 motor in my DS I'll have to check tonight and see.
If you have adjusters there are no HLA's so you'll want to stay on top of valve adjustment. |

Sure enough, mine with the 2013 engine I swapped in has manual valve adjustment. My 98 and 02 motors do not.
And it was a good bit loose too. Glad I checked  |

Japanese motorcycles with OHC are assumed to check lash warm, aircooled VW's use aluminum pushrods that grow in length evenly with engine temp. These Kawasaki pushrod motors loosen up as they warm up.... Just gotta get a feel for it:mrgreen: |
Re: My FE350D has valve adjusters, what gives??
As far as I'm aware, most golf cart adjustments are specified Cold.
I also could not find a spec for the FE350 but almost every other FE engine is .0047 so I set them to .005. Before adjusting them I could fit a .015 feeler gauge. |
Re: My FE350D has valve adjusters, what gives??
It's the newer 50-state engine. The 50 state FE350 uses solid lifters with valve adjustments instead of the older hydraulic lifter design. It also does not use an external RPM limiter. It uses a new style flywheel with a new style ignition coil as well. The RPM limiter is now built into the ignition coil.

Do you happen to know what the correct valve last should be set to? I used .005 since that was what was listed for all the other motors (.0047 actually, but rounded up). I couldn't find a valve lash spec anywhere for the FE350 |
