48v and 36v
Would a 48v charger at 40 amps damage my batteries on a 36v application?

YES !
You cannot mix voltages! In fact, a 40 amp charger is not a Golf cart battery charger ( even if you had a 48v cart) it is a bit strong and would tend to heat up the batteries resulting in a shorter life.......8) You need a 36 volt charger 25 amp max. |

Thank you for the answer. What I am trying to figure out is how to create a dc to dc charger. I want to use a solar panel to charge up an auxilary battery bank, and then use that battery bank to charge the golf cart. I just am trying to figure out what size voltage the auxillary battery bank should be?

ok, so if a club comes stock at 48 volts, could i use a club car charger on a converted 48v ezgo?

Yes to the ? can it work! Now to answer it in long form.
The charger may not work because some of them have to be told by the cart to cut on/off by the OBC in the C/C cart though. You need to know which charger you are uying.:thumbup::wink:8) |

No, late model 48v club cars have an OBC(computer) that controls the charger, tells charger when to cut off. There are plenty of after market 48v chargers available.

ok, well if i buy a 48 volt charger....what amp range should i look for? im running trojans..dont remember the numbers on them though

I would get at least a 15 amp. 20 would be the best I would think.

I like a Lester 09695. 25 amps max . Self timer with 3 cycles & Auto shutoff.
It is the charger on the right......8) |
