48v and 36v

Would a 48v charger at 40 amps damage my batteries on a 36v application?

YES !
You cannot mix voltages! In fact, a 40 amp charger is not a Golf cart battery charger ( even if you had a 48v cart) it is a bit strong and would tend to heat up the batteries resulting in a shorter life.......8)
You need a 36 volt charger 25 amp max.

Re: 48v and 36v

Thank you for the answer. What I am trying to figure out is how to create a dc to dc charger. I want to use a solar panel to charge up an auxilary battery bank, and then use that battery bank to charge the golf cart. I just am trying to figure out what size voltage the auxillary battery bank should be?

Yes to the ? can it work! Now to answer it in long form.
The charger may not work because some of them have to be told by the cart to cut on/off by the OBC in the C/C cart though.
You need to know which charger you are uying.

No, late model 48v club cars have an OBC(computer) that controls the charger, tells charger when to cut off. There are plenty of after market 48v chargers available.

Re: 48v and 36v

I would get at least a 15 amp. 20 would be the best I would think.
