I have a friend that has a 97 DS, he just installed new batteries ...not sure what brand but he says his stock charger shuts off at around 50 volts and the pack settles a 47.8...he is getting those numbers from a cheap Chinese led voltage display dash mount unit....any ideas why his batteries are not reaching a full charge ...my batteries will get up around 65 before the charger shuts off and they settle at around 52 or just under that ...I know 50.93 should be correct ? any ideas would help lead him in the right direction

Assuming the charger was working before the new batteries, the most likely scenario is that he attached the red wire coming from the charger receptacle to the wrong battery.

Make sure the red wire from charger receptacle is on the pack positive battery post.

If it was on the wrong post, disconnect the pack negative cable for more that 10 minutes so the OBC resets before charging the cart again.

I don't know about your friends batteries fishbooz but you are slowly destroying your batteries. The charger should never go higher than approx 58.5V. (unless you are in an equalization charge and then only 62V) You are seriously overcharging your batteries. Your charger is running wide open. You need to replace the OBC or get a new DPI charger.

Don't know Trojan seem to waver on this as my Trojan PDF list up to 64.8 volts while in Finish/Equalize mode....

My new Lester on board takes it's time and at a very low amperage takes the pack to 64v before cutting off. That is 2.67 VPC (volts per cell) which is higher than the 2.45 vpc (58.8v) I am used to. But I remember CC chargers using 63v or 2.63vpc cut off.... I will ask Trojan what they think about these #s and how they apply to their 6v, 8v, and 12v batteries

Trojan Battery not only makes the best GC battery but like another industry leader (Alltrax) they have the best tech support ever, not coincidental, I'm sure.

Stacey tells me 2.7vpc is their recommendation for an equalization charge and that applies for all batteries regardless of 6,8 or 12 volts. Specifically the 2800 Lester with it's 2.67vpc is within the safe range.

So I ask the question for you;
Is it safe to use the 2.67vpc (64v) finish voltage for every charge cycle?

Her answer was yes so long as the batteries do not gas for more than 1 hour. Adding:
The current is very low when the voltage is high, so there really isn’t a lot of overcharge happening (at that high voltage) if you look at it in terms of amp hours ( 1 amp for 1 hour on charge = 1 amp hour).

Good to know. Thanks for taking the time to research it. My Lester Links charger is taking my T 875's to 65plus volts also. Charger and batt's are new
