primary clutch
 

i have a g8 with a torque spring jetted uni air filter exhaust port and polish head cut 30 thousands on a fresh rebuild. i am having an issue getting any top end out of this cart because of the ignition rev limiter. i am only getting about 24 mph but it does have good torque i don't want to go back to a stock spring because i tried that and it just didn't have enough torque for what i do. so i was wondering what you guys thought about the upgraded primary for the g2 thru g22. my friend has one on his cart and that thing does about 31 with minor mods exhaust k&n so i am just wondering if you guys think it will help with my top end with out losing any torque. thanks

i should also mention that im all over the rev limiter while we go on are rides cause i am trying to keep up its annoying but probably saving me.

Lady bug, I have a G8 and I'm not aware of mine having a rev liniter. With all the mods, are you sure it's not lean and falling on it's face on the top end?
Get it warm, then run it WOT for 40 yrds or so, and with out closing the throttle shut off the key and try to get it to neutral, then stop. Let it cool with seat up for 10 min. (aluminum) don't want to gull the spark plug threads in the head.
Pull the plug,and in the sun, look down the side of the porcelen insulater part of the plug. If it is white, it is lean. If it is tan or gray, that is where you want it.
Also the stock carb. is going to be restrictive somewhere in the chain of your performance improvments. You may need to talk to Plowmans.

i brought my carb to my dads shop and we are going to take a couple cuts at it but i really don't think this is a fuel issue it is definitely not a starved for fuel feeling its more like a loss \of spark. i am spinning around 4200 rpm and i have heard they do have rev limiters on this forum before but i should bore the carb for better performance any way. thanks for your help and i will try that still what do you think about the hi perf comet clutch.

I'm not versed on all models here. There are many on here like Ess, that know more (these guys wrote this forum) than me. It maybe Ess that is the clutch specialist here, and Smallblock knows (rev limiter)more about them than I will ever hope ta know, Sprid also. Ground pounder(another good one) Many more also.
I'm worried about emmulson tubes and that kind of flow areas when you get to where you are. And I'd have to go back to the books again (been a few yrs. since i've thought about this kind of stuff)
Guys that can read a plug, can tell you just exactally what is going on. The hard part is finding someone that can. I just like to act like I can!! ha ah!
Tuning is an Art!!!!!! Again, not just anybody can do it. I can make them run but tuning: It's Art!

Smallblock has more knowledge about Yamis than I’ll ever be able to learn. I think Bigblockman and Doomsman are the clutching kings.

yes all of these guys that you have mentioned are very good and have been a big help to me sevral times. i think it was small block who told me i have a rev limiter on my cart around 4200 rpm. but hope fully they can let me know about that clutch. and i will buy it if i can grab some more top end.:help:

I've been working on Yami's for 30 years and untill Spriddle mentioned a rev limitor in the g2's I didn't know. If G9's don't have one, why would a G8 have one? I have seen worn primary clutch weights have the same effect, kind of "out of balance" effect, causing loss of spark at higher rpm's. Try taking the drive belt off and reving the engine, if it "osilates" could be loose primary weights. On another note, loss of top end could be a restictive exhaust. I'm learning ever day like you.
