Not charging

Before I get into every thing I done so far, I would like to know if anybody has or knows how to wire a starter generator when reversing the polarity.
I have a 2000 club car carryall and I bought a ccw starter... and was told by several people that it doesnt matter and that they will work either way so it is wire just like the wiring diagram from a 97 that I got off this (no blame just telling you what I did) so there is an idea. The cart starts up no problem but only getting 11. something when I put on the tester when I put on the voltage/reg. it goes down to 1. something. I am at a lose here I've done several other things but figured I start with this first . I did see on another thread that if it's not wired right it will start the cart but will drag the battery. I will gladly run down everthing I done so far it it is wired right.

i have always been told you can,t swap the C.W and C.C.W starters......i don,t know 1st hand so i,m guessing but if its dragging the charging system down it would seem to me its because of the rotation of the starter.....yes maybe the starter side will start the cart but it seems the generator side is running backwards............i don,t know that theres anything you can do about that but someone here will know.........like i said i,m just thinking its discharging instead of charging.....................................8)

Well I'm starting to think that is true. When I put this in I called and talked to a repitable cart tech. and told me it doesn't matter, but like you said the starter works but the generator may not. I know that some of you guys on here say that it usaully isn't the starter/gen. but mine truely was bad. The armiture was/is shot it wont even turn. But I wasn't paying attention when I purchased my new one (so my bad).

It's to my understanding that Club Car OEM S/G's are only CCW and CW,
But, there are now "aftermarket" S/G's that are bi-directional.

I know this doesn't help, but, for some reason I thought I'd just throw 2 cents out there!

Thanks guys I ordered the right starter/gen. today so hopefully that's what it is. My next step is rewiring the cart wire by wire.

You might want to look at purchasing a wiring harness from a dealer or one of the sponsors. It will make a rewiring job very easy. They aren't that expensive.

Re: Not charging

There really isn't a reason for a new wiring harness... Just the proper rotation S/G!

Well I installed the new starter/gen. and still had the same issue but I narrowed it down it was the antenna on the radio shorting out. It rubbed the casing thru to the frame. It was a tight install so I could see how it happened.
