Difference in PowerDrive Chargers

What is the difference between a PowerDrive charger and a PowerDrive2 charger? I assume that the PowerDrive2 is the newer charger? If this is correct, what year carts used PowerDrive and PowerDrive2? Thanks.

I just recently read that, all 48 volt cc chargers will work on any 48 volt cc. Interesting. That must be any cc with an obc?

All 48v Club Cars have a OBC (unless otherwise altered)

I'l agree, they'll work... I had thought that the case and the transformer were
just smaller on the PD2, due to technology...

But, looking through my Ilustrated parts book just now,
the PD charger is 48V/17A output,
and the PD2 charger has a 48V/13A output...

17A output for 6 8V batteries???

13A output for 4 12V batteries???

I'm just guessing... :dontknow:

Good guess Don. In the manufacturing industry they call it "value engineering". The cart will recharge overnight with either charger so let's make one cheaper (PD2). Value engineering also extends to 4x12v vs 6x8v batteries, the run time on the 12v is less than the 8v but they get the job done and it's less expensive to manufacture.
