Adjusting the choke on my 1997 yamaha
 
It is set to run 15 to 18 mph.I am ok with it since my 14 yr old drives it also.B y adjusting the governor to get more speed is it going to start having problems with my engine.Like to have more speed but want to do the right thing.What do I need to do.

Choke will not get you anymore speed. The governor will, however 18 mph is about as fast as you can get with just adjusting the nut on the governor. There are several options you can do to get more speed, but first you need to decide how fast you would like your kid to go.

Sorry I meant adjusting the governor.Dont know what I was thinking.I was told every 3 turns would add 1.2 mph

I have seen different numbers from different carts. Check your accelerator cable from pedal to governor and governor to carb and remove slack in the cable, this will ensure carb opens all the way. Then turn in till your happy or complete bypass.

yup you can tighten the nut all the way in on the govenor and it won't hurt the motor.

The only thing I can add is....leave alittle slack on cable #1 and cable #2. Make shure the throttle shaft is closed all the way or you gould get backfireing.
