1995 ezgo solenoid clicks but cart won't move

I was stranded on course today with this problem and it was pouring down rain as well. I was able to get it moving by tapping on top of the solenoid. Is this a solenoid problem or a controller issue? Batteries are new. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Replace the solenoid

Sometimes old pitted solenoid contacts get stuck.

I had a '70 Plymouth Duster that took two people to crank, one to turn the ignition, and one to hit the starter with a hammer.

Yeah I still have to do that on my 89 Toyota 4runner, darn cheap A&% reman starters!

2 Attachment(s)
Here's one failure mechanism of a solenoid. While corrosion is present and tapping on it made it work intermittently, over heating caused the contacts to move, and the melted plastic didn't help. Driving too long with too many passengers was the cause. The fix was just temporary until my next one came. It died a similar death, so I upgraded.

When you replace solenoid make sure there was a resistor across the contacts and be sure to transfer it too. If not you need to get one and install it. It will help prolong the life of the contacts. If it has a diode across the coil terminals be sure to transfer it too and connect the end with the band on it as it is installed on the original.

If you only play golf, a standard solenoid is marginal. If you drive it around more than that, or have more than two people, buy a HD solenoid.
