How to center steering column on 512E?

I purchased a Melex 512E to use with my ~400lb power wheelchair stripped it down to the frame and am relocating batteries to provide floor space for my chair. We will be adding a ramp and making it street legal. Most of the project is going well but my nephew and I are stuck on the steering. Because of the weight of me and my chair, we removed the steering assembly to move it to the center of the cart. We figured out where to mount the steering box but cannot figure out how to connect it to the lever below that turns the wheels. Has anyone done this? Any suggestions? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I am sure this won't be my last begging for help.

Thanks,

A few pictures of what you are doing might help. I replaced the rack on one and it took a little trial and error to get the splined shaft in the right place but not sure exactly what you want.

I'm not far enough along for pictures and think we may have figured it out.

We have removed the steering box from the side and want it centered. The problem is with connecting the linkage meant to have left/right movement. We are thinking of cutting the connector rod in half and welding to an S hook. I don't know the proper terminology so apologize for not being clear. We are thinking that if we connect to the steering box lever facing one direction with the S shaped connector rod connected to the steering lever facing the other direction, it will provide enough length to achieve the left/right push/pull movement.

Thanks for your reply.
