G2 rear end reassembly
Having some problems getting the rear end back together after replacing bearings and installing new gasket. The input shaft doesn't want to seat in the blind side bearing. I pulled the shaft out and tried without the rest of the case attached and still no go.
Should I try freezing the shaft and heat the bearing with a heat gun? Any ideas would be a great help, kinda want this back together. Thanks Pete |
Re: G2 rear end reassembly
A shop press would be helpful. But try the hot/cold thing, dont get the bearing too hot, brief passes with torch, dont want to soften the metal.

Re: G2 rear end reassembly
I figured it out, I ended up borrowing a micrometer from one of the mechanics at work and checked the new bearing i.d. against the old one. The both measured the same, then I measured the shaft and found the very tip of it is just over .0015 bigger than the rest. I figured I will just use some fine emery cloth and buff off the excess.

Re: G2 rear end reassembly
Problem solved, I took the emery cloth to it last night and tried putting it together today.
Once I got the shaft to start into the bearing with body weight I was able to tap the end several times and got it to seat. Now lets just hope I put everything back in the right place! |
