91 ez-go starting problems
 

Ok...I officially have a running gas cart. I stuck a battery in it and at first it wouldn't run.....so I ran down a few things and came to the conclusion the needle was sticking and it wasn't getting any fuel to the bowl. Took the carb apart and sure enough it was sticking....the bowl and internal carb parts are spotless. Un-stuck it and its all good now.

Heres my question.....it turns over fine and does run normal but I have to push the gas pedal almost all the way down before the engine starts to run. Is this normal or should it start at like 1/4 throttle?

Most of the old 2 strokes I've seen like lots of gas to start and then run
great once they are running.

I dont like it....can I have your engine? I'm used to those nice electric carts :-P ....when you hit the pedal it moves!

The 91 I worked on was the exact same way. I came to the conclusion that all the linkage was so worn out that nothing moved at the carburetor until the WHOLE system had reacted to the gas pedal movement. I adjusted on that thing for over an hour and only got it partially better.

Oh, and the 4-strokers are not like that, only the crappy 2-strokes! :-P :lol:

We took some of the slack out of the cables and linkage. It starts sooner than before. Why does it run faster in reverse than forward? :lol:

you should check the compression forward and in reverse. The piston will be pushing up against one side of the cylinder or the other depending on which way the crank rotates. this causes the rings to wear more on one side (going forward)
or
its easier to pull than to push if your frontend is all buggered up and causing drag
drive it around backwards for a few weeks, maybe it will even out

Well...That makes sense. I'm sure its been run forward more than backwards.
