Trying to register my golf cart as LSV

Hi I am trying to get plates for my 2010 yamaha 48volt in New Jersey.. but I do not have a title for it ... or a manufacturer certificate of origin ... does anyone have any ideas around this

If NJ is anything like Kommiefornia, you won't be able to do it. I asked the DMV here how to do it and they said it had to come from the dealer ready to register with correct format VIN, safety equipment and speed limits.

I'm shocked NJ even allows LSV on the road outside of private property. Maybe look at a hot rod forum. I have a friend in NJ that had to do a bunch of nonsense to register a kit car he built. But he was able to eventually get a title

There isn't much you can do without original paper work. LSV's have certified top speed and all the requirements of a car. It has to be manufactured as a LSV to start with.
Hi-low headlights
Turn signals
Horn
Stop-tail- turn lights on the back
4 wheel brake system
Park brake.
Seat belts
Windshield with DOT approved glass
There is more but it slips my mind. You could get the paperwork package for a standard VIN number. Apply for a VIN number and jump through the hoops - state check for stolen parts - state check for DOT approved produces like brakes - lights - glass. Then it has to pass a standard vehicle inspection.

Do you own a house or property in another state by chance? maybe it will be easier to register it there and then bring it to NJ with that states plate on it. I know FL is pretty easy.

NJ LSV's require the following (among other stuff) that your Yamaha might not have now

Speedometer
Odometer
4-wheels brakes
Seatbelts
Headlights
Tail lights/brake lights
Directionals
Rear view and side view mirrors
DOT front windshield
DOT tires

Here in New Jersey you will not be able to register your cart as a LSV without a 17 digit VIN that decodes as a LSV.

Getting a VIN in NJ will be nearly impossible.

There are a few outfits that modify carts to LSV specs and claim to be certified to issue 17 VIN numbers. Here is one:

Based on the above I bought a factory LSV (E-Z-Go 2Five)...it's been checked over by the PD a few times already.

I was told by Panama City Beach police officer that you did not have to live in Florida to register a golf cart there. I have had a chance to verify this. If you have an ezgo I have an email address that you can get the manufacturer certificate from. If not might be able to call yahama or club car to see if you can get one from them.

That is often the hardest part for those who purchased their carts second hand.

Have to contact the manufacturer and they will help you from there
