EPIC amp ATV

Well didn't I find a needle in a hay stack!!!

I found this gem on Facebook market place a few weeks ago and had to have it!!!

It's one of very few EPIC amp atvs. Its built on a renli platform. It has 4wd locking front and rear diffs 5spd manual and its powered by a warp9 electric motor. This particular one was 72v lithium. It looks to have had one of the flux bms modules fail which prevented the charger from being able to charge it any more. This ultimately lead to the failure of the entire pack. [emoji22]

Further investigation has found the alltrax axe dead as well. I was unable to source any wiring diagrams for the original wiring harness so its been a very slow process of getting everything working again.

I have a low cost approach of getting it moving to ensure nothing in the drivetrain is damaged before I spend alot of money on a huge lithium pack and 1000+ amp controller.

I'll be using parts I already have. Replacing the alltrax with a 72v 600amp TSX 3.0 controller from navitas. This will enable me to easily monitor the controller temp and amperage from my phone while I test it out. This info will help to give me an idea of what I'll need for a long term setup.

Battery will be pulled from my big cart 67v 16s gen3 nissan leaf modules. Later I plan to make a 72v3p leaf pack from gen2 cells.

So far I've gutted the buggy of the dead batteries, controller, and bms system. Ive chased out the wiring mess that EPIC amp did to retrofit the electric drive and also collected as much info on the charger as I could.

Delta Q 922-7254 turns out its 99v capable fully programmable and has a built in 30amp 60amp peak 12v reducer.

I managed to figure out the 12v wiring and get the heads up display working. What a surprise that was!! Its only done 163 miles!!

In order to retrofit the navitas controller im making an independent wiring harness using the alltrax clubcar schematics as a guide. So easy to follow props to them on documentation!!

Next up was the throttle. Navitas controllers require the use of a safety throttle switch and also H/W/L 3 wire pot in order to work correctly. The original throttle was a curtis PB-6 2 wire and didn't have the mounting plate for the micro switch. Despite my better judgment I purchased a new PB-6 3 wire with micro switch. It wasn't until I went to use it that I realized the H side of the pot wasn't connected. So I tore it apart and soldered a lead on the missing H side. While in it I changed all the leads to better match the Alltrax diagram.

Next up will be to wire up the controllers logic power circuit, foot switch, and run tow.

Make shift wiring harness spliced in. Borrowed a main contactor from one of my golf carts and a test drive was in order!!

Maiden voyage was a success trans, diffs, wheel bearings, motor, were all quiet as a mouse!!

Managed to get it up to 40mph. I had to be pretty cautious the brake master cylinder is out so all I have for brakes is the e-brake and it doesn't work very well. She had plenty more in her.

Next will be fully servicing all the fluids and greasing all the fittings I can find. At about 15mph I'm pulling 100amps. I want to see that figure drop to around 60amps. I can still feel alot of mechanical drag so I'm hoping the diff fluid changes and greasing will help.

Giving this thing a much needed make over. Pretty sure a blind guy spray painted it. Coat 1 of 70 [emoji3061]

Pulled the winch planning to replace it with a nice 12v battery for my sound system.

Added a new key switch and a USB charger to the dash. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...efa85f2e81.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...cbf009a26d.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...2b43f85f28.jpg

Swapped my msa wheels and tires over. Rides so much better guessing the old ones had flat spots from sitting so long. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...5aeb4d7062.jpg

Re: EPIC amp ATV

More lithium should be here tomorrow!!!!

Going to set up a trial with 6 gen 3 leaf modules to see how the extra voltage helps with amp draw. Hopefully I'll see a noticable drop in the average. If thats the case I will move forward with the big pack build of 24s3p gen 2 leaf modules. If not the next test will be a bit costly and likely won't happen for a while but that test will be 116-130v again checking to see average amp draw. I want to get into the 50s or less with a cruising speed of 20mph.

That thing is looking wicked! I hope there's going to a link to a video of it showing off.

First round of lithium showed up. This isn't long term I just happened to score these on ebay cheap. First go is controller high of 99v if the continuous amps drop alot im gonne pursue more voltage if it lays flat im gonna get my P game on. HV pack will be 20s 3p high back will be 40s 3p if needed. I want my continuous to be below 50amp on pavement

Very cool machine. I've never seen one like that before. I've seen some similar gas machines, but electric is very cool. Even better with the new tires and wheels. And with Lithium batteries......way cool!
