Wiring forward and reverse switch on 85 club car
1 Attachment(s)
I have done a lot of reading but haven't found exactly the right answer. Here goes my first post:
I have inherited a 1985 club car 36 volt car. Installed two new 12 volt batteries, painted it and having a hard time finding the right wiring diagram for my cart. I have the manual but there is no detail on the forward and reverse switch. I have sketched the diagram of the original wiring and will post it. The two lead at the bottom of the switch goes to the positive terminals on the batteries. Does the location or the position in the series of batteries determine the reverse speed? (in the diagram below, reverse would use the two 6 volt and the one 12 von battery and forward would use all 48 volts). Is this wiring diagram or theory correct? Sorry if these questions are remedial, this is my first experience with a golf cart. Thanks for your help! |

yes your diagram is good BUT ... your 36v cart will not last long with a 48v system

as you show it the reverse is 24v here is a good diagram http://www.buggiesgonewild.com/attac...e528185if2.jpg |
Re: Wiring forward and reverse switch on 85 club car
Your best option is going to be to gut the original controls and update to a modern control system. I did the same thing you are doing and realized 1 hr after driving it that it was way too slow!! Good luck

Thanks for the insight. Just minor problems with sparking that I have to figure out.
Thanks again! |

Working on an '85, 36v DS cart, with the 5 Solenoids and microswitches on the accelerator. (non-Vglide)
Just to confirm, S1 cable goes to the Copper bar on the top/side of the FNR switch, and A1 goes to the passenger side contact of the rotating center? The factory service diagram does not clearly indicate the FNR connections. |

The FNR Switch looks different on that diagram, but I can clearly see the center rotating connections are S1 and A1. Thanks!
I will be connecting as shown in attached photo. |
Re: Wiring forward and reverse switch on 85 club car
What terminals are in contact with each other when the FNR switch is in FORWARD, NEUTRAL, and REVERSE?

Whoa ! you cannot recharge 6v and 12v together. Period, end of discussion.
A 6v and a 12v have different AH capacities and different charge needs. Any cart charger will supply amperage to the pack in series = all the batteries get the same charge. This will be a disaster meaning the low amp hour 12v will be overcharged and high AH 6v will be under charged! Don't do it  regroup |
