Prepairing for bow season?
 

Bow season is just around the corner, it opens the 15th of September in Missouri. Me and a couple guys went out last sunday and started clearing trails that had blown over trees on the private ground we hunt, this also was appreciated by the land owner who is not a hunter. He retired recently and normally this was something he took care of but we will from now on. Also we brush hogged the trails that was growing over and put out salt blocks and mineral blocks in several spots and soon will be putting out feeders. This was the first trip out there with my cart and I was able too see how good it will get around since I built it primarily for deer hunting. I'm impressed with how good it got around the woods with the weak stock motor turning the 26" tires but will be much happier I'm sure once my Plum Quick motor arrives. We are going back friday to put out more salt and mineral blocks I get from a feed store, there 50lb blocks and the cost is only 5$ a piece so I'm planning on doing this for years too come, also on this trip we will be checking stands, moving a couple, and cutting shooting lanes. Last year I missed a nice buck due too lack of preperation and that will not happen again. So what are ya'll doing too get ready for deer season 2013? Lets get a good thread going here and hopfully everyone will have some good pics to post this season :thumbup:

I never have bow hunted, but I certainly love rifle season! Last year I got a nice 8 point, seems like that is as big as they get down here in southern Missouri...

getting the itch too...can't wait to get out there! got my elk antlers down so I could paint the room and just has me in a hunting funk....it's all I can get into... Fixing up the hunting cart to get me and the boys around hunting!

Put the salt blocks out a month or so ago, and have been running the feeders since spring. I have a guy I do some trading with at an elevator so I get all the corn I want. If it wasn't for that I wouldn't be using them yet.

Also planted food plots this spring. Usually we've done the fall planting, but this year I went with 4 types of clover and planted in the spring. Hopefully it will last 3 or 4 years before we have to plant again. Along with the clover there was an annual called rape. It's only good for one year, but it gives the clover good cover so the deer let it get established. One nice thing we had plenty of rain this spring so the food plots did good.

NICE plots.!!.

We cant plant too much here in out pine forest. But we run the feeders with corn. Our adjoining land owner is clearing his property and harvesting the pines so we are excited to see how that works for us.

I am headed out next week to cut some trails and hang a couple of new ladder stands.

I am getting itchy too. Cant wait for the first cool day.

Plots have been planted trails have been bush hogged stands have been moved and feeders have already helped me catch 3 thieves

Awesome job on the food plots reinman! Really wish we woulda put a few in but here in southeast missouri we have had bad droughts the last few years, this year woulda been perfect with the mild temps and plenty rain..... Maybe next year we will

Congrats on the 8! You should try Bow hunting if you have the time, its so much better in my opinion!! I got my first bow kill the year b4 last and I'm hooked, I hardly even get in the woods during rifle now, the wife calls rifle season beer camp instead of deer camp. :lhmo:

Yeah I have considered bow hunting, may have to try it this season.
