2003 Club Car 36v solenoid works only when jumped.

I have a 2003 Club Car DS 36 volt that only runs when the solenoid is jumped. We can touch the top terminals together with a wrench or screw driver and tires will spin in forward or reverse and will speed up when go pedal is pushed. But will not run with key in on position and go pedal pressed. What could be the problem? Both small terminals show 18v I don’t know if that means something. Thanks in advance.

What’s your pack voltage across the whole set of batteries?

We’ve got 36v. They’re 6 band new 6v golf cart batteries. My father in law has been in the battery business for about 30years and he thinks it’s gotta be something we’re just missing.

Good. The first thing to check is always battery voltage. There should be 36v across the two small solenoid terminals when the key is on and the pedal is pressed.

Is this a resistor cart?

So small terminals should show 18v each? Resistor? It’s a V-Glide

Does it have a series of coils under the seat toward the back, or does it have a controller box?

It’s a V-glide but there are probably large coils behind the batteries.

There should be 0v + and - at the solenoid until you push the pedal. Then it should be 36v (actually 38.2) positive and one negative. Check the small wires with a meter.

Metal coils

Do you hear a tiny click in the v-glide when you press the pedal?

Yes there is a click when pedal is press and the arm moves. When we arc the top terminals of together on the solenoid we can press the go pedal and wheels speed up. But there is no click under the seat when key is turned on.
