g2 chrysler igniton

I installed one on a g2. Does timing have to be changed for it to run right.

Timing on stock G9 (and I think G2) is 0 at idle then 1K rpm it starts to go up to max of 30 degrees advance at 2500rpm and stays there....or something like that I'd have to look at the manual to recall exactly.

Thats funny I thought of putting my G9 ignition on my clone engine but not sure how to work the pickup for it.

Re: g2 chrysler igniton

The higher rpm is what needs advance, they don't bother on lawn engines due to 3600rpm max....except most lawn engines now have a mag coil that does advance some, the new B&S people have retrofitted to older engines. Its more important on gokarts and the like.

My new clone does not have advance, it has some built in I forget how much. I put a 4 degree key in it and cut the head 050. I can hear it spark knock just a hair if I gas it at low rpm, just for a second and the rpm go up. Its the stock clutch.

You can get parts cheap for those GY6 engines the Chinese put in every honda copy minibike and off road gokarts/etc. Also the scooters. Some have made ignitions out of those CDI boxes since they are so cheap. Hard to say what advance curve they have though.
