Painting this weekend
This week I plan to repaint my 2006 club car precedent. (Top, trim, and body)
I have read every post on painting that this forum has on painting. Steps: 1. Wash then use some wax/degreaser 2. Apply adhesion promotor 3. Paint with Keylon fusion 4. Spray with dupli-color clear coat My question it... do I need to sand first. I see some people say no that Krylon fusion will bond with the body and there is no need. But some say it is very needed. |
Re: Painting this weekend
Why do you want to use Krylon? I had not had any luck with it lasting on plastic that is outdoors all year( and yes, I used adhesion promotor). When spraying with rattle cans I prefer to use the complete Dupli-Color system (color and clear). I also use a NAPA flexible primer then a sandable primer over the adhesion promotor. I sand the entire cart prior to painting to scuff up the existing paint.

Re: Painting this weekend
If you have no bodywork to do then I would just scuff it with some red scotchbrite then start the painting process. Some say no scuff and some say scuff but my opinion is 2 hrs of scuffing is a small price to pay to make sure the paint adheres and lasts. I also think you should stick with one product line as Krehbay suggested. As always everyone has their own opinions and these are just mine.

Don't know what changes your new paint job will make, but I wish I had taken before and after pics.

I ended up using dupli-color, and washed, sanded, de-greased, tack cloth, adhesion promoter, sandable primer, primer (sanded after), primer sealer, base coat, clear coat. i went way OTT but was just wanting to not have to redo again if it went wrong. Some sample shots: Attachment 206615 Attachment 206616 I'm in middle of a lithium conversion so not all put back together yet, but painting done, and the colors seem good. Have a new black roof to go on top too. The two colors i went for was Ocean Blue Metal Specks - https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-M...6153498&sr=8-1 and Metal Specks Sparkle Silver - https://www.amazon.com/Dupli-Color-M...98&sr=8-1&th=1 |
