How To Fill Holes On Body
5 Attachment(s)
Getting ready to paint my buggie. Didn't want it to be down while painting
so I went to the GC graveyard and got me a body. Decided not to put plastic rear fender covers back on. So there's holes to fill. Thought I'd show you how I do it. Started with this. Used a ball grinder on a Dremel to bevel holes on both sides. Then cut some wax paper and taped it to outside of body. Mixed some filler and applied from inside of body. Let harden and remove tape. Sand smooth and glaze with putty to fill pinholes. Sand smooth again and you are ready to prime and paint. Muddog |

Nice job. I filled mine from the topside with 2 part epoxy, but I like your method better by putting the paper on the top and filling from the underside.
You can't see it in this pic, but if I look real close - and the sun is just right - I can see a ghost outline from filling in the hole(s). Adding the back seat helped hide them though... http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...psa9cb0269.jpg |

AA, This is my first attempt at painting a buggie body. I'm used to working with fiberglass and it's much easier to hide stuff like that with gelcoat. so I was mindful that I was painting, which is surely not as forgiving as gelcoat. Being neither a body man or auto painter is why I not only glazd, but used high build primer. The hi build is like gelcoat for me. Of course once again, not being auto painter, put it on and then sanded down. in my defense I was using a $18.00 HF spray gun. It's smooth now, after 4 hours of sanding. |
Re: How To Fill Holes On Body
You should of glued a piece of plastic on the bottom side of the body. And then filled the hole from the top side. Just filling the hole with putty and nothing to support it, it will crack in a few months

AA, not sure of brand yet. Was going with Dupont from local paint store, but they don't do metal flake, just pearl. I want metal flake and lots of it. Going to check out finish masters and see what they have. Muddog |

I shoot PPG, my cart is a burgundy metallic to match my son's Jr Dragster - but no metal flake!
