2 or 4 gauge wire
i was thinking about upgrading my battery cables this winter. just seen napa has a sale on 2/0 ga. clear-vu battery cables. i was going to go with 4 gauge but what would be suggested. just put 4'' lift kit with 22'' tires on my marathon.no other upgrades yet!!!!

Re: 2 or 4 gauge wire
I'm no expert, I probably have less posts then you but it can't hurt going with 2 ga. Less resistance. Less heat. More current flow. A lot better then stock. It will save you from ever having to upgrade them if you get a higher amp controller.

Re: 2 or 4 gauge wire
I agree, if the price is right, go with the biggest you can fit, if you're ever going to upgrade. Then again, if you upgrade to more batteries, you'll end up building new/different cables anyway when you try to fit everything in, so.... :)
I was considering doing 2ga myself, since I have a good bit of it laying around my shop, but then again I have about 24 feet of 2/0 laying around as well, so I could go really crazy... I'm thinking most of my carts will end up with 4ga since they won't see huge upgrades, and the 4ga is sufficient to handle most upgrades I would consider anyway. |
Re: 2 or 4 gauge wire
A lot of people here say to use welding cable because of it's high strand count and its very flexible. What about high grade audio power cable? I've seen some with higher strand counts than welding cable.

Re: 2 or 4 gauge wire
4 gauge is as big as you need - unless you are pumping insane amounts of voltage / amperage. Just remember that not all 4 gauge cables are the same...

Re: 2 or 4 gauge wire
yea I too have 2 ga laying around but was jsut told that 4 ga is plenty ... but yea i also have a bunch of amplifier wire lying around that im gonna use.. JL audio wire is really nice, flexible enough and high strand count..

Re: 2 or 4 gauge wire
Audio cable does NOT have insulation resistant to battery acid.
