Ezgo TXT48 - A build thread

These are my favorite carts. The ride is superior and the controller is pretty easy to get to. The TXT platform has stayed about the same for 20 plus years. The TXT48 is a grown up PDS.
PDS was the little 36 volt sepex cart Ezgo unveiled in the year 2000 with the $5 speed chip. It got 14 mph factory, 19 with the speed chip, and 23 with the Alltrax control. The newer TXT48 is a 48 volt cart. It produces more torque with it's longer stack motor. But Ezgo set the speed about the same, 14 factory (on course speed), 19 with the dealer programming, and 23 with Alltrax controller.
Of course you can bump it up to 27.5 - 32 mph with the FSIP speed motor per our test runs. 27.5 being the manufactures recommended top speed on stock tires but put the cart on 22-23" tires and 27.5 jumps to 33.5 which is getting crazy fast on a for golf cart.
Well enough chit - chat, pics in a bit.

So my battery guy called and said he had some 8v blems. Blemished new batteries can be a bargain. These are Johnson Controls batteries 175 AH.
They look like they will do fine for the price 8)
I know ......... you're wondering if I will put an Alltrax control in it, right?

I removed the environmental cover and solenoid hat.
Removed the controller and looking around for a controller worthy of the build...yes, this one will do 8)

Based of the wording of your question, I suspect it will be something other than Alltrax.

You beat me by two minutes, and I was wrong. :lhmo:

Tomorrow I'll try to get a pic of the cart and choose a motor. Controller's not much good without one.

Wait… Can you use that IQ controller on a TXT48? Never heard of that before.

Yes, the IQ (all models Excel, i2, Onward) and the TXT48 use the same control with a couple of program differences.

Got some done on it below.

Okay I got the controller and solenoid installed.
XCT48500 control
MZJ400A soelnoid
Note the 2 diodes
3 amp suppression diode on the small terminals and a 6a regen diode on the big terminals. Both didoes are polarity sensitive. The MZJ solenoid is not.

You might say what does that mean? It means the MZJ solenoid does not care which small terminal we land our + & - coil activation wires on. But - the diodes are polarity sensitive. Electricity flows through the diodes in one direction and is absorbed or blocked in the other direction. Placed properly it will protect the system from voltage spikes created when the solenoid opens. Placed incorrectly it becomes a damaging short. Pay attention to the striped end, it goes toward the + side of the circuit it is protecting.
In this case the small + wire is yellow. And the battery cable on the solenoid is on the same side as the yellow wire in this particular installation.
