Rear Bearing Question 68D

Hi guys, finally finished my resto on my 68D only to fire it up and realize that I have a bearing issue. I am a novice when it comes to the mechanical work so forgive me if my terminology is incorrect. I'm pretty sure I have a bad bearing Where the shaft from the clutch enters the differential. I have looked through the manual and can't seem to find specs on this bearing. Does anyone have an info on this? Or tips on the repair? Thanks in advance.

My carts don't go back that far but here is some info for you:

It looks like these guy have them as their item #BE11-200:

https://www.vintagegolfcartparts.com...rings_bearings

They usually give original part numbers for reference as well but none are listed for that bearing.

Here is a link to a host of parts manual supplements:

I am sure that the part number for your bearing is listed in one those somewhere but it may take some perusing to get it.

Regarding replacement, I have never done one but I have monkeyed with the transaxle before. That should be pretty easy in that you just unbolt the needed side, undo the hanger and the axle should slide off.

I think vintage would be a great place to start. When all else failed got what was needed from them.

Thanks for the info, I think I'm gonna take the bearing out first so I make sure I get the correct one

With those bearings it's very helpful the have a micrometer on hand to measure everything out. We have a bearing supplier listed in one of the stickies that allow you to look up bearings by size.

Well my neighbor and I got into the differential yesterday and came to the conclusion that we were not equipped to get it back together after changing the bearing. I am taking it to a local golf cart repair shop to see what it will cost to take care of it for me.

I was able to get the bearings I needed from Motion Industries at a lower cost than the vintage parts site. We use them for bearings at the company I work for and they had both bearings and the oil seal in stock!

A 'clutch and u joint' shop would likely be a better place than a cart shop. In that era they were using scaled down automotive rear ends. Later carts were different animals that were purpose built for carts and other small equipment.

Re: Rear Bearing Question 68D

I ended up tearing into it myself and the repair went great. Once we got got everything disassembled and cleaned up we replaced the bearings and seals, it went back together perfectly.
