Taylor Dunn 3 wheeler project complete (Tee Bird Eagle III)

We picked up a ratty Taylor Dunn three wheeler last summer. We did a few things to it and gave it to my sister who loves cruising around our small town. Here’s a few things we did.

- Rebuilt the forward/reverse drum switch
- All new 4 gauge hand made cabling
- Onboard charging
- All new front seat vinyl
- Fabricated a backseat with seatbelt for the nephews
- Switched the old sparky rheostat and resistor coils to solid state
- Upgraded to 48v so it handles the hill my sister lives on.
- All new rubber
- New batteries
- Single round headlight just like the original had

My sister can’t go anywhere in town without getting stopped by someone who wants to know all about it. She loves it!

That looks super fun. What controller did you go with?

We used a Curtis 1204, I have the handheld computer so we were able to make some tweaks to it as well.

Nice job, those old 3 wheelers are cool. Gotta be a bit scary at speed with 48v!?

Thanks! It’s really not too bad, though my sister drives it slowly, that’s why we swapped it to a solid state controller, she totally burned up her first resistor coil! Lol! We went to 48v because she lives on a steep hill and it struggled with that, we’ve had zero problems once she went to 48.
