2017 Drive2

My kids were driving my cart a little while back (on Halloween) and when they got to where the wife and I were, the cart smelled like burnt electrical components.

It's a 1 mile ride from my house to my friends house and the kids barely made it. I could smell the cart as soon as they pulled in. Motor felt very hot. It's a stock motor with an Alltrax XCT 400 and the upgraded solenoid. Ordered with preinstalled map for a stock motor. No lift but it does have bigger than stock tires.

I'm about 95% certain that it's a bad motor but I wanted to ask what I can do to test the controller and solenoid before just ordering a motor. Just to be 100% certain. Also, is there anything I should test on the motor with a multi-meter?

Thank you,

Bigger controller, bigger tires, rear seat and a stock motor known as a weak point... i'd pull the motor out for inspection, probably worn/burnt brushes. It's repairable.

The stock Hitachi motor is very weak and I killed mine when I upgraded to Alltrax controller. Yours is probably cooked too.

If these stock motors are that bad I'm not going to bother with a repair. I just wanted to see if there was anything I could check to eliminate the controller from the equation.

I'm thinking Admiral D2 for replacement. Trying to keep costs at or under $700...being that it's Christmas and I have kids lol, I don't want the argument about spending a grand right now. Anyway, I'm thinking as another option maybe something from EMP. Any idea what the price range is for a custom from EMP?

Also look at D&D. That is what I have in both of my G29 Drives. I don't know the difference between what I have and a Drive2. Both of mine are older (2009 and 2012).

Alright, I've pretty much narrowed it down to two options based on price and availability. What's the feedback on the Admiral D2 vs the D4. Big increase in durability for the D4 being a long stack? Should I expect the same speeds from both with less wear and tear on the D4?

I have wondered the same thing about the difference. I have a friend who has a Drive and it is DC, another friend has Drive two and it is AC. I wonder if it is that simple.

The AC motor was introduced in 2015
The Drive 2 can be DC or AC.
The Drive 2 was introduced in 2017. Any Drive before that is a G29 Drive 1.
The G29 reference was dropped for the Drive 2.

I ended up going with an Admiral D2 that I ordered from a site sponsor. I have to say, I am pretty impressed with the performance. With an Alltrax XCT 400 and the stock motor I was getting 23-24mph pretty consistently. This Admiral and and an updated field map to match the motor, I'm getting 27mph with me and the wife.
