Micro switch shorting out
 

Im working on a 04 ez-go txt.

I replaced the micro switch in the floor next to the itp throttle and it shorted the switch out. I check some of the wiring for problems, nothing seemed out of place. I tried two more switches and it did the same thing. at one point I saw some smoke come out around the selonid and the dioide was hot.

The diode is bad or installed backwards! You can test the diode by removing one of the leads and Using a DMM, on resistance scale ( Ω ) connect your leads one direction and then reverse the direction. You should have a high resistance in one direction and a low resistance in the other. If you have a low resistance both directions, the diode is bad. The stripe on the diode should face the + side of your solenoid ( not the black one ) :mrgreen:

If the diode is bad, will it was the micro switches to burn up?

I am guessing this cart came to your shop for this reason. Has the owner tried to fix himself, is the wiring in the correct spot? Sounds like it might be shorting out or getting the wrong voltage.

Is the cart modified at all?

Here check this out.

Follow the solenoid activation circuit below - test for 36v+ at each location mentioned.

TXT Series solenoid activation
Power starts on the White wire on the 36+ of the battery pack.
Power travels to the charger receptacle, goes through a reed switch inside the receptacle and comes out on the red 12 gauge red wire.
The red wire travels back through the loom to the Forward and reverse switch where it attaches to a micro.
The other side of that micro has a blue wire attached that runs under the cart to the front and arrives at the keyswitch.
The keyswitch then transfers power to a green wire which returns to the area of the Forward and Reverse switch.
the power then goes through a 4 pin Molex connector and travels to the "pedal Box" (located under the floorboard of the car) where it goes through a micro and comes out on another red wire.
That red wire comes back up to the Controller/F&R area where it once again goes through the 4 pin molex connector and continues on to the small post of the solenoid.

The guy bought a set of batteries from me and put them in the cart, and he said now it will not run. I ask he if hes messed with any thing other than the battery cables, he says no. everything looks to be hooked up right, I tested the controller and it does work, I put a new selonide on as well and it still short's out @ the micro switch.

this is a new one to me.

should'nt I be able to use a jumper wire across the micro switch, instead of a microswitch. Im tired of burning up all my micro's

Yes! It is then a direct short! Like I mentioned before, it is an easy test to see if it is bad or not. :mrgreen:

Don't jump the switch! you may burn the wiring!
