"waterproofing" electric cart
 

Well ive built an AC "race" cart for the neighborhood and now I am planning on building a cart for cruising the woods during hunting season and was wondering what all should be done to the motor to protect it from water. Ive seen badboys go through water up to the floorboards which would mean that the motor on the axle would have been submerged...so I know its possible. I was just wondering what they did or what else you can do to overcome water shorting out the system....

I had one in the shop but it was a stealth car and all I saw that they did was put a bead of silicone on the motor where it bolts to the housing.It must work cause I changed the motor in it twice.

did you mean that it must NOT work? did they do anything to the terminal connections on the motors/controllers?

also, what about the part of the motor that allows it to "breathe"?

I changed the motor 2 times because it had a bearing issue and it was under warranty.The company paid for the work.It has an 18horse d@d motor and is 4x4 with a driveshaft running to the front.The motor wont get but so hot unless something is wrong with it.

Also all the plugs were just like anyother cart,there was no sealed connections that I saw on it.

if it gets wet, get it dry sooner than later... most of the connections and seals a are "water resistant" but submerging crucial parts for more than a few minutes is asking for it
