Polaris Scrambler 400 2 stroke Engine Swap

1 Attachment(s)
Been considering this. I have a 1996 Polaris Scrambler 400 2 stroke quad that runs really good, but has a trans issue. I rebuilt the trans once, but the issue is returning, sounds like it's skipping a gear. So, rather than put more money into the quad, I'm thinking that engine would do nicely in a cart. It's not very large, and has the factory clutch, if I ran the same belt it should work with a stock Yamaha G16 secondary clutch. The engine has 38 hp and revs to 6500 rpm or more. Thinking it would really rip in a cart. What do you guys think?

Here's a pic of a similar quad, mine looks nearly identical.

Cooling system would be an easy fix, just run some plumbing up to the front. It has an electric cooling fan that mounts to the backside of the radiator. I think the biggest challenge would be the big 2 stroke pipe.

These 400s run pretty damm good. I say give it a go. Make sure you use the original exhaust . Don't try no funny business with it. You know how these 2 strokes are extremely picky. Oh...and figure out a way to add the 4 wheel drive to the cart. You already have all the parts from the 4 wheeler.

The other 4 in the 4X is the only thing I'm missing on mine.

Street or offroad?

Id say full steam ahead slonomo, love these builds

Yeah the cart it's going in was basically free, and the quad I bought for $400 and rebuilt the trans. I don't use the quad very much, since it's a one seater. I think I'd really like to have a beast of a cart again :lhmo: But something different.

So..... golf cart frame and rear end, quad front suspension, brakes, and 4x4....That sounds EASY!!

I guess I'm lucky with the 4x4. I think a 4x4 G16 sounds pretty cool, plus add the 38hp 2 stroke to the mix.....

Well, my 15 yr old son and his buddy started taking apart the Scrambler last night. Going to venture down to the workshop to see what kind of mess they made :lhmo: They think they are going to make a dune buggy  I'm thinking G16 400cc buggy
