Air Ride suspension on TXT

I am moving forward with my air ride project. I have an EZGO txt with Robins 295cc. I am going to use the Monroe Air shocks. I have searched the forums and I see most users use the MA705 shocks. I was considering using the MA739 shocks to get a little extra lift. I would like to know others opinion on these shocks and if it will be too much lift for either the front or the back. I also considered maybe using the 705 shocks up front and the 739 shocks in the back. As for the cart I have the old style steering which is not on the axle itself. Thanks for the help.

This site has made me addicted to modifying my cart beyond what I imagined!

I know we’re in the on road section of the forum, but are you wanting to use these shocks on a lowered car, or a lifted cart? I needed to cut and sleeve my steering shaft with the 705 on my lowered cart because when I fully aired up the shaft was too short and split apart.

Yeah I decided to go with the 705’s. I am using this on a lowered cart. As of right now I’m not trying to slam it to the ground. I have not thought about the steering yet. I’ll tackle that when I get to there. Thank you for pointing it out because I’ll keep an eye on what it does.

Also have another question for the air ride guys. I am putting together my order for compressor and tank parts. I got all the pieces to convert my shocks to use 1/4” air line. My question is what do most of you use as the pressure switch setting. I see options for 150/175/200 max shut off. I know the shocks only take 150 max but is there a benefit of going to 200 max on the compressor and tank. If so how do I keep from accidentally over filling bags above their recommended pressure of 150.

Get the biggest tank you can fit in your mounting location. I got the viair part number 20005 which is 150psi mounted compressor with a 2 gallon tank. (Fits perfect in bag well) The psi isn’t as big of an issue to me (or in general in my opinion) as the amount of air storage. I wish I had more so the compressor wouldn’t need to run as much. I would find it hard to believe you could actually over inflate the shocks to the point of a blow out. They run on the same principle as semi truck suspension. The heavier the load the higher the bag/shock psi at a constant ride height. If I load my cart with 4 full size guys with out having leaf springs in the rear due to my own trailing arm set up I have a problem getting the cart to air up due to volume behind the shocks (air tank). I have to air up. Let the tank equal out with shock psi and let the compressor kick back in to get more air to the shocks. Maybe someone else will chime in with their opinion but that’s what I have for you with my experience.

Finally making some progress even though it’s taken some time. Not complete yet but she raises and lowers beautifully. Need to make a little more modifications to the front to get full drop and full lift. Next gonna switch over to the 1/4” air lines and then start mocking up the locations for the compressor, tank, and paddle valves.

Also got this new led headlight/taillight setup! Very excited about the Halo feature of the headlights. It also has high/lo beams which was a nice addition.

Very cool minker.

Consider installing some limiting straps on the shocks or do not inflate them to the max rating for long periods of time to preserve their life.
