Clutch repair

Broken or stripped studs on a primary clutch can be repaired if you have a drill press and welder. A parts supplier said the clutch was beyond repair but the face was not worn and was expensive to replace. I welded a jig to hold the clutch in the proper position for drilling and drilled through the bad stud with a pilot drill then drilled and tapped for 1/4-28. I should have cut off the damaged stud then found the center and drilled. (more accurate method) I used 1/4-28 grade 5 bolts and cut to length then fixed with red loctite. I could have used 1/4-28 set screws as well. I made the jig in the photo so I could turn the bad stud over the base offset for stability. An added brace under the stud and slow drilling is in order. With care a very good repair like this can save cash.

if those studs are screwed in, especially into aluminum, I never use a drill or drill them out. I always go for the welder.
