tie rod length

Hey guys,
I just installed a jakes 5" drop axle on my workhorse (MPT 1200) 2005 model. The tie rod bottoms out in the ends before bringing the hubs back straight. I cut 5 threads off each end of the tie rod and it got a little "better", this was without the jam-nuts in place. this lift is advertised as "NOT A ST 350 COPY". The instructions mentioned nothing about a shorter tie rod or having to cut this one. my ?? is that with the tie rod now appearing to be TOO LONG, is the tie rod on the 350 shorter anyway or maybe the mpt stock axle is wider? Is there something I am overlooking? I'll get some pics once I get the tires and rims on it and get this pigeon toe problem fixed.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

Do you have both ends of both tie rods all the way in until the bottom out or just the outside ones? If so, it looks like cutting it or buying ST350 tie rods is your only option. My neighbor has one, I could "borrow" his while he's sleeping and send them to you.  j/k

Thanks for the offer but no need getting shot over this

The MPT only has ONE tie rod running from spindle to spindle. One side CW one side CCW. both ends bottom out in the ends before aligning. Now that I've cut the threads off it runs out of threads W/O the jam nuts on it. I'll get a meaasurement on the stock axle vs. the drop axel to see if one is longer than the other. the way its working out the drop axel appears to be narrower than the stock one...i just wonder if they sent the wrong lift?? thats why I wanted to know about stock lengths of the ST tie rod and the workhorse. workhorse and MPT are the same thing are they not?

thanks and keep'em comin'

The stock axle usually is shorther than the drop axle. They make the drop axle longer to give the cart a wider stance. Is your cart toed out like this? If so you need longer tie rods but the kit should come with them.

The Workhorse and MPT are identical minus the name. Yours is like a Workhorse 1200 not a Workhorse ST 350 though. Different models and front end setup there.

Here is how the steering is set up on an ST350:

Thats how it is on my Workhorse 1200 but the ST 350 has different spindles. I put a "Factory Authorized EZGO lift" which is an ST 350 lift on one of my EZGO carts. It comes with new spindles that have the riser built into the spindle and new tie rods and ends. It also had ST stamped on the built in risers. I'd assume that means they are ST spindles.

Negative, My tires are pointing IN in the front...the kit bolted right up every where it should have on the front except for this tie rod problem and there was no mention in the instructions of needing a different tie rod. I only have ONE tie rod not TWO like shown in the pic above. I have a 98 ez-go with that same set-up so I already saw the difference in the two front ends. I haven't pulled a tape on it yet but just holding the stock axel up to the droped one the STOCK is slightly wider (to my dreary eyes anyway). You guys have already been more help on here than where this lift came from ....THANK YOU!
keep'm comin'

I have that ST lift on my 98 model and this one on the mpt is TOTALLY different. Steering rack sits on top of the axle. I'll get some pics of it shortly.

The drop axle I got from CPP is wider than stock.

the pics don't show the toe in as bad as it is....they do show the single tie rod being bottomed out .....Could the tie rod be mounted on top of the spindle ears instead of underneath...to give more protection/ground clearance????
