Revamp of a well used 05' Precedent (long post)

Well i have been here for a month or two and got lots of help from many so i figured I would go ahead and throw up a little about me and this poor cart. We are fairly avid campers and do a lot of beach trips so we figured it was only fitting to get a golf cart to throw in the back of the truck to take with us. The search was hard to find a gas club car (wanted for the salt environment). They are way over priced in our market. After some negotiating i settled on a well used cart that this guy had just bought to flip. He basically sprays everything with spray can bed liner in order to cover all the blems. Here is the ad and pictures of how it looked when i got her home.

This thing was used in a pipe yard or somewhere outdoors. It has some type of mud under it i couldn't hardly pressure wash off. I cleaned its up best i could and went to working on it. First was to get rid of the flat paint body. Found a guy somewhat local that sold me a brand new body and used windshield for $100. The body had sat in a warehouse and been moved around a bunch and had a few scratches but was over all in great shape for the price. Next came a lift kit and 14" wheels with some 23" tires that were good for the beach and soft sand. She was looking good now! Last thing we needed for the evening beach cruise was lights. I installed a aftermarket LED light kit.

While i was doing the lift kit I addressed all issues that were related or attached to lift parts. I did new brake shoes and drums. Also added heavy duty leafs with new bushings. I added the stiffer spring in the driven clutch and machined it to help with the low end. After that i came to find out my primary clutch was worn out so a new club car clutch was installed. Next was take care of all the mechanical things with this cart to be sure it would be reliable for years to come. New throttle cable, both belts, engine pan bushing, fuel lines, filters, and a oil change were all performed. I also cleaned the carb just for good measures. The engine had a bad oil leak so i had to pull the engine side case cover and changed the gasket and crank seal. Last issue I had to resolve was the stuck parking brake. After removing the pedals and cleaning them I was able to get the brake unstuck and oiled up. She is beach cruising ready!

Now I'm not all done with here yet!
I still need to replace the seats on it. They are crappy rigged up stuff the guy put on it just to sell. I also am adding LED's under it and then will finish up with a stereo system. We love it though. Been on one beach trip so far and we drive it daily in our neighborhood. I have tweaked the throttle and governor and she will scoot right along at 25mph if need be.

Thanks everyone on BGW that has helped to get me this far!!

Looks great. I kind of like the spray on bed liner though. I like flat black. Probably a lot of added weight.

Thanks guys. The bed liner might not have been so bad, but it was a rattle can spray and not durable at all.

Today's project was I hooked up a horn to work off the horn button on my new $30 ebay steering wheel. It actually works great.

Can you show us how you did it?

Thanks

Man i am the worst at taking pictures while i do projects. That is why all my pictures you see here are just before and after photos. I'll explain it to you though.

When i did my light kit it had wires in that harness that dumped out by the headlight for a horn. I thought "Oh this will be easy" Well it was somewhat easy. I have lights but without the blinkers your left with a open 9-pin plug behind the dash. I found the constant power, ground and wire to the horn in that plug. I found some terminals that i could plug into those slots and ran them to the relay.
The horn button had 2 flat spades on the back. (ground in - ground out) To get from there to behind the dash i just drilled a small hole through the steering-wheel adapter. Its aluminum so it drilled easy. Its goes from behind the wheel to the other side next to the lip that covers the column shaft. I left some extra wire coiled up next to the splines (hex on a precedent) where you cant see it them so i can turn all the way both directions with out pulling the wires out. From there I ran the wire down the bottom side of the column. I covered the wire with black duct tape so unless your looking you don't even notice it.
I'm really happy with the results.

Last month I got the LED's under it. I just used a 15' roll of RGB and spliced it up as needed. Ran double strips under both sides and the rear which i affixed to a 1" aluminum strip and screwed to the bottom of cart. They are just over 2' long but since i doubled them up they are pretty bright. (sorry for the poor image)

Then I finally talked the wife into letting me do a stereo on it. Infinity is adding LED's to all their marine speakers so they are closing out the old ones. I found some at the local Academy Sports for 50% off so that kicked the project off. I wanted a sub too so i went with a 5-channel amp to throw good power at everything. It was a tight fit under the hood. Almost didn't fit.

Its throwing down over 1000w of actual certified power. Its great because I don't have to turn the gains all the way up and its very loud and clear. I did the VIP vacuum formed ABS plastic dash kit to holds the Kenwood marine head unit and the front 6.5"s. I cut holes in the rear deck for the other 2 6.5's. For a sub I did the Kicker 10" marine tube enclosure which i mounted under the back set. (forgot to snap a picture of it)

I am super happy with it. It is loud and sounds great. Now i just have to do some new seats with the white stripes where the passengers sit to help tie the white speakers in and break up all the black and maybe I'll be done for a while.
