Won't Go Into forward (drive)
95 gas TXT, backed it out of the garage, stopped, placed the selector in forward, drive did not engage. Sounds like the gears are touching at the top only. Little back ground on what I have tried already. Disconnected the two cables from the selector and manually placed the lever in reverse (works fine), placed the lever in fwd, same problem, it will not engage in FWD. I don't have any manuals or pictures to see what's inside this rear end to understand the problem. HELP

Re: Won't Go Into forward (drive)
The rear end must be secret, I am not finding any manuals on it and thanks for the manual link, I will add that to my library.

Re: Won't Go Into forward (drive)
Thank you RIB for the PDF that helps out a lot. StoveBolt it sounds like the input shaft and the forward gear assy is not fully engaging, So I guess I need to figure out why item #6 shift rod is not fully engaging the input shaft. It works fine in reverse but not forward.
The pisser about all of this is I just ran it for 15 minutes, parked it in the driveway, daughter wanted to ride in it, so I backed it out of the driveway and then it went to crap.......... |
Re: Won't Go Into forward (drive)

OK I got the rear end out the cart and I am ready to split the diif housing to find out what's going on in there. But, how do I get the driven clutch off, any tricks?

Re: Won't Go Into forward (drive)
Lots of penetrating oil and time and maybe a little persuasion with a pickle fork

Re: Won't Go Into forward (drive)
So I got it all apart, but I do not see anything stripped, worn, no metal shavings, nothing. Put it back together and..............drum roll...............same thing. It is detenting in both fwd and reverse but only in "fully engaging" in reverse. It tries in fwd but it is still growling. Crap. Time to upgrade to a newer rear end.
